International Day of Prayer for the 10/40 Window

If you know me, you have probably heard me talk about my passion for unreached people groups. I can spend hours pouring over websites like JoshuaProject.net, Win1040.com and OpenDoorsUSA.org

I want to know where in the world needs missionaries, because 95% of missionaries in the world go to places and people groups that are already reached by the gospel. Which means that less than 5% of missionaries go to the section of the globe known as the 10/40 Window, where nearly 2/3 of the worlds unreached people live.

This is also where 90% of the world's poor live. The seat of every major non-Christian religion - Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Animism, Atheism, and Sikhism - is headquartered in the 10/40 Window. It is also a center for religious persecution, for terrorism, for child prostitution, and for abuse.

But why do I care so much? Because it is estimated that 1.6 billion of these people have never had the chance to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ - not even once!

And I believe that "No one has the right to here the gospel twice until everyone has heard it once."

That, after all, is why I am in Peru.

And that is why on this day, October 3, I feel a huge passion to pray for this area of the world, and the unreached people who live there. And I'm asking you to join me.

According to Win1040.com, "Christians from all over the world agreed that what they needed most more than anything is PRAYER. The 'World Enquiry,' a study led by Luis Bush, concentrated hundreds of research projects to provide a statistical foundation for future strategic decisions within the Christian Church. One of the primary outcomes is that prayer must become a central focus of Christianity. Through the power of prayer, we will witness the 10/40 Window reached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ!"

They have seen amazing things happen as a result of prayer:
  • In Nigeria, more than one million people gave their lives to Christ in a single service.
  • Key Christian leaders in India attribute the Praying Through the Window movement as one of the major catalysts to the conversion of hundreds of thousands of Indian Dalits and Backward Castes. In 2002, key leaders also attributed the planting of thousands of churches in India to the effectiveness of the prayer movement.
  • Christian political leaders are now heads of government in several 10/40 Window nations.
  • There are twenty-six 10/40 Window nations that are now "Gospel-Ready." This means these nations are open to Christians being involved in their nations in various ways, such as humanitarian aid, education, medical assistance, political input, and some are open to the Gospel being preached.
And God is not done working in this region!!

So what to pray for?
  • Pray for Believers to hear the call to intercede for the final frontier of missions. (The Bible, I Timothy 2:1-3)
  • Petition the Lord for the souls of the Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists living in the 10/40 Window. (The Bible, I Timothy 2:4)
  • Ask the Lord to soften the soil of the hearts of the unreached and bring forth a rich crop -- drawing every man, woman and child into relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. (The Bible, Matthew 13:23)
  • Cry out for those whose eyes have been blinded by the enemy and are held captive by false religions. (The Bible, Colossians 1:13)
  • Pray for a tremendous harvest of souls in the resistance belt. (The Bible, II Peter 3:8)
  • Declare the coming of God's Kingdom in the 10/40 Window. (The Bible, Matthew 6:10)
